Activities

Irzani bin Ismail
1081107144

Objective of the link:
This link provide the information of how we can have a great variety of activity days and weekends on land, in the water and even in the air.Our activities are based all around the Tioman Island at some of its best venues.

Description on the individual ideation of the link :
My part of our website is to come out for the Activities around the Tioman Island. It is a fantastic watersports haven. Here you can indulge in scuba diving, snorkelling, rock climbing, waterskiing and windsurfing. It is truly a wonderful playground for lovers of these sports. You should not miss the chance to see the rich marine life of Tioman waters.

WALK AND EXPLORE THE ISLAND

Because of the absence of roads on Tioman, the only way to reach all the attractions of the island is by boat. Many operators and resorts offer you the opportunity to see the highlights of Tioman in a one-day round-island tour. Typical stops along the way include:

• Asah waterfall just outside of Mukut Village
• A chance to photograph the twin peaks
• Duty free shopping in Tekek
• Snorkelling at the Marine Park headquarters
• Other villages
• Renggis Island

Round Island tours range from RM 80-120 per person, depending on the starting point, duration and type of boat used.

SCUBA DIVING

The abundance of marine life, accessibility and fairly good visibility makes Tioman one of the most popular diving destinations in Malaysia. There are many dive operators on the island offering boat and shore dives as well as instruction and certification.

There are over twenty dive sites on Tioman, with something for everyone from the newly certified to the experienced wreck diver. There underwater topography is diverse and Tioman is also one of the few places in Malaysia where you are likely to come across schools of dolphins.

If you enjoy exploring the underwater world, do your part to protect it. The golden rule, apart from never holding your breath, is to take only photographs and leave only bubbles! Below are some guidelines that every responsible diver must follow.

Dive Centres on Tioman

Salang
• Dive Asia
• Dive Fisherman Centre
• Scuba Naut
• Azmi Dive
• B&J Dive Centre

Air Batang
• B&J Dive Centre
• Eco Dive Centre

Panuba
• Bali Hai

Tekek
• Dive Asia
• Tioman Reef Divers
• Tekek Inn
• Tioman Dive Centre

Lalang (Berjaya)
• Berjaya Dive Centre

Paya
• Sea Lantis Dive Centre
• Payar Diver Cove

Minang Cove
• Minang Cove

Juara
• Bushman Dive Centre

SNORKELLING

The warm, crystal clear water, the abundance of marine life and the fact that snorkelling trips are included in almost every resort package, means that there is only a very slight chance that you will leave Tioman without doing some snorkelling.

There are many patches of coral in the water in front of most villages and you can easily rent a mask and fins (and lifejacket if you wish) and wade into the water from the beach. Some of the better snorkelling spots need to be reached by boat and these are some spots that are popular stops for snorkelling outings:

- Tulai Island (Coral Island)
- Renggis Island
- Monkey Bay
- Marine Park

ROCK CLIMBING

Advanced climbers can attempt the full five-day climb to the top of the twin peaks, sleeping in hammocks at dizzying heights along the way. Only a few climbers have managed to reach the top to date. With such a challenging site, it is no wonder that international competitions and women’s record-breaking events have been hosted here recently.Tioman’s rock climbing is not only for experts: local guides that organise climbing expeditions are happy to show beginners the ropes at any of the other sites or at the base of the twin peaks.

WATERFALLS

The hilly terrain of the island has numerous places where mountain streams cascade over cliffs, granite boulders and deep rock pools to find their way to the sea. Reaching the waterfalls usually requires an uphill trek through the jungle, anything from 5 minutes to two hours long, but the gorgeous sight and the fresh, cool mountain water make the sweaty walk worthwhile every time. The highest waterfalls are the Asah waterfall close to Mukut village – which also has refreshingly cool mountain pools to swim in – and the Juara waterfall in the hillside behind Juara village. The rock falls behind Paya village is nothing more than a bubbling river rushing into the lagoon over a series of boulders, but a peaceful, natural sight nonetheless

Travel and Tips

Don Desmond Aralis
1061111660

Climate
Equatorial with fairly uniform temperatures year-round, ranging from 21ºC (70ºF) to 32ºC (90ºF). Humidity is high (85-95%). Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm and most rain can be expected between November and February.

Clothing
Very casual. There are no dress restrictions on the islands and light cotton clothing, t-shirts and shorts would be suitable. In some villages and rural areas, modest clothing is more appropriate.

Customs
Tioman is a duty-free island, which means that cigarettes and alcohol can be bought at rock-bottom prices and that resorts and restaurants are exempt from the usual 5% government tax.

Please note that there is no duty-free exemption for cigarettes and alcohol carried over the Malaysia-Singapore border into Singapore. When crossing from Malaysia to Singapore, you are required to carry your luggage through the customs checkpoint for inspection

Shopping
Most of the duty-free shops can be found in Tekek and mostly stock alcohol and cigarettes at duty free prices (no perfumes or chocolates). Every village has one or two souvenir and convenience stores and some of the resorts have their own small convenience store stocking T-shirts, sunscreen, batteries and other essentials.

Language
Bahasa Malaysia is the official language but English is widely spoken and understood.

Time
Malaysia is eight hours ahead of GMT and 16 hours ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time.

Driving
Visitors will need an international driving licence. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road and it is advisable to observe the speed limits, which are generally 50km/h in the city or residential areas and 80km/h or 110km/h on the highway and expressway.

There are no roads on the island apart from the short stretch between the airport and the Berjaya resort and the jungle road between Tekek and Juara. There is a secure car park at the jetty in Mersing.

Police stations
There is a police station in Tekek and a small police station in Salang.

Anti-drug law
Visitors to Malaysia are advised that the trafficking of drugs in the country is an offence punishable by the death penalty

Religion and culture
The official religion of Malaysia is Islam but there is freedom of worship. When entering mosques, women are required to cover their hair and no shorts or tank tops are allowed for either men or women

There are no dress restrictions, but it is best to dress modestly when visiting villages or Muslim families. For the beach a normal bathing suit or bikini is perfectly acceptable, but topless sunbathing will not be well received.

Shoes are usually removed before entering homes and also in some shops and restaurants.

Tipping
Tipping is not mandatory but is widely practised. RM2-RM5. Most hotels and restaurants include a 10% service charge in all their bills.

Immigration
Citizens from the following countries are required to have a visa to visit Malaysia : North Korea, Cuba, Vietnam and the People's Republic of China. Nationals other than those stated will receive a visa upon arrival or are allowed to enter Malaysia without a visa for a visit not exceeding one month. However, it is recommended that visa enquiries are made at the Malaysian embassy or Malaysian consulate closest to you, as regulations are subject to change.
